Missing The Bus

This study of travel concessions, "Missing the Bus", describes the role of bus passes, travel tokens and rail vouchers in improving the quality of life for older people. The wide range of activities made possible by concessions is examined.

However, bus passes cannot be used by the frail, disabled or other older people when there are no local buses. The research affords a glimpse of the social isolation and misery of ESPOPF members when travel tokens are discontinued by the Borough Council.

They find it incomprehensible that additional funding from the Government for their travel results in a reduction in their concessions and bus services.

This research is as relevant today as when it was published in 2006 when half-price bus passes were made mandatory.
